Chloe
Name: Chloe
Sex: Female
Born: Unknown
Favorite food: We think it’s bananas; she eats them so fast she gets hiccups afterwards.
Favorite activity: Wrestling with Blackie.
Chloe used to be a family “pet.” Her owner had her canine teeth pulled, something that many people do to keep from being bitten by the wild primates they have tried to domesticate. The surgery left poor Chloe’s jaw a mess—gibbon canine teeth have really deep roots. Fortunately, she is still able to eat without requiring a special diet.
She came to IPPL in 2007 from another sanctuary, where she had lived about two years. We don’t really know how old she is, but she looks like a more senior animal. She is quite lively, though, and likes to swing around and around the vertical support pole at the top of her outdoor enclosure. If she likes you (an important “if”!), she’ll gladly accept back scratches.
In March 2010, she was placed with Blackie, an elderly, deaf, widower gibbon. Her presence has put an added spring in his step! They get along very well together, and they often like to play and wrestle, even at the very top of their enclosure. When they do, it almost sounds like cats fighting—but really, it’s all in the name of fun.
