Every year at Halloween, the small town of Summerville invites local nonprofits and businesses to build scarecrows to exhibit in the town square. Well over 50 exhibits are on display this year. The square is always crowded with excited children and adults. Thousands of people visit the scarecrows every year. It’s especially pleasant at night when the square is brightly lit with thousands of lights and crowded with visitors.

Me and my scarecrow!

This year IPPL had an exhibit in the square. It was designed and built by Hardy Brown, a long-time IPPL staff member, who especially likes Halloween and is brilliant at creating “spooky” exhibits.

October 19 was “set-up” day. Hardy and Robin Brown, Tina McCoy with her youngsters Paige and Joey, and Meg McCue-Jones went to set up our scarecrow—which was me with straw for hair! I was surrounded by small trees and primate stuffies! The youngsters crowded round the IPPL exhibit!

We’re already thinking about our 2014 exhibit!

I am so happy that kids like your exhibit so much.IPPL has such a good effect in helping these children direct their concern for primates into tangible achievements.
